If you’re familiar with how small business SEO works, then you already know how important high-quality content is to your website. Even if you’re sure that it will be a hit with your audience that is sure to drive record-breaking traffic to your website, you’ll have to make sure that you take care of your on-page optimization. That way, you can guarantee that both your audience and search engine crawlers can read your content.

The Basics of SEO On-Page Optimization

The Basics of On-Page SEO Optimization

As a general rule of on-page optimization, you’ll have to concentrate on each post and page on your website for a keyword, key phrase, or a single concept you can use to connect your content with your audience. If you find the right ones, your content will have an easier time showing up on the first page of a search engine, automatically meaning more visitors to your website. Otherwise, no matter how relevant and useful your content, people won’t find it.

It will help to know the page factors that affect your SEO on-page optimization. That way, you know what to tweak accordingly to achieve the best results.

Here are a few SEO factors that you want to keep in mind:

HTML Page Title

One of the more effective ways to optimize your SEO-focused website is to include an exact keyword phrase in your HTML page title. It must be at the beginning of the title or within the first 65 characters to make it more visible to your readers.  Our suggestion for HTML Page Title length is 55 characters.

Headings

Just like your HTML page title, you’ll also have to include a keyword in your heading tags as much as possible. However, make sure that it sounds natural, or Google will suspect you of keyword stuffing.  Heading tags show up typically in your website editor as H1, H2, H3, H4 etc...  H1 should be the main topic of your page.  As you list additional topics covered on your page - you can add H2, H3, H4 as you go down in priority from the main subject.

Page Content

You may have guessed by now that inserting keywords and its variations is the name of the game of SEO on-page optimization, as it also applies to your page content. It is best to pepper your content with your keywords while keeping your content relevant and ensuring it reads naturally. There’s no exact figure on how many times to insert it, but a sweet spot is between 3 to 5 percent of your content.

However, make sure you steer clear of keyword stuffing. Search engine crawlers will penalize you if you insert them all over your content, as it makes your website spammy. A good idea would be to proofread your articles and reduce the number of keywords if it begins to sound repetitive or unnatural. This technique is crucial for small business SEO, which will give you the edge you need to attract more customers.

Internal Links

Search engine crawlers love websites that link to its other pieces of content. It provides a more engaging experience for the user, as they’ll be guided towards different articles and pages relevant to their interests. That way, your website is not a dead end.

Image Alt Attributes

Lastly, making your website accessible to a broad range of users will do wonders for both your SEO and your reputation. You can do this through image alt attributes, which describe an image for the visually impaired. Use vivid descriptions in this aspect and incorporate keywords as you see fit.  This also can help google understand what each image is and it can help your image show up under google images in search.
